I use Pinterest as a resource for inspiration on how to use music technology. Look for boards related to music education or specific pinners who post quality resources. Even better, become someone who contributes to the community to help it grow.

Ableton is a DAW that excels in live applications. In a classroom setting, you can use it to accompany students live using a MIDI controller or assigning the various functions to your keyboard. It is a very complicated program; however, the help view has step-by-step tutorials on how to use the basic functions of the program

This is a great app that allows you to do side-by-side comparisons of video along with visual and audio annotations that can be sent to students. Check out my YouTube demonstration for a better understanding of how to use this in a music education setting.

A brief demonstration on how to use Diigo groups to collaborate with other music educators.

You can use the share function on EverNote to create a note that can be shared with parents or students. This can be used with private students by giving them a private link where you jot down what they are supposed to prepare for next time, how much money is on their balance, or what was discussed during the lesson. It can also be used with larger audiences to communicate homework, upcoming performances etc.. This allows you to update the notes using your phone rather than having to send out an e-mail or posting on a website.

This video walks you through the steps to install an 8-bit VST into GarageBand. Once you install the VST and select it on a track, your midi notation can begin to sound like 8-bit video games.

Handout for ILMEA Summer Learning Series session. Description of session follows: Packaged musicals are cute, but is there more to putting on a musical than being cute? What if you could engage your student (even the very young ones) in creating their own shows, asking them to make all the creative discussions, and opening up the world of musical possibilities to them all while preparing for a concert? In this session, you will explore, experience, and discuss how to put on a student-created performance/concert. You will discover some ways to lead your students in creating their own concert, including dealing with repertoire selection, "casting" and selecting parts, developing instrumental parts and choreography, and the logistics of working with a bit of uncertainty. You will walk away with lots of ideas, resources, and a sketch of a possible student-created performance that you could start with your students as soon as school resumes.

This website provides a visualization of processing effects and audio. This is a great way to interact with audio and see how the effects impact the sound.

This network is for sharing and collaborating on project files for Ableton, FL Studio,and Logic Pro. If used in a classroom setting, you could collaborate with other musicians around the world, or simply use their uploaded project files as a resource for understanding how people use these DAWs to make music; i.e., analyze the project file like you would a score.
